About

Gisa Elwazir (born Weidemann) has lived and travelled extensively in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia before settling in Dallas, Texas. Her perception of the world and involvement with different cultures is distilled through her paintings. In her youth, black ink curved, sprinkled and mused across a white paper background. As her experiences matured tentative, dark, subdued tones took over the white background from which surrealistic images of faces, figures, hands, eyes, and chairs morphed. With time, a brighter palette began to emerge inquisitively, spring edging its way passed the darker, somber hues. Gaping faces and clawing hands gave way to flowing textures, birds, apsaras, wings, reds, pinks, and yellows. Today, emboldened by her new palette and armed with her tantalizing detail to line she weaves vibrating landscapes into our vision. An explosion of color and intricate texture celebrate Gisa's rendition of her spirit and the world that shaped it.
